8th Annual Houston Palestine Film Festival
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is discussed via solar energy at the 8th Annual Houston Palestine Film Festival when the festival continues for a second weekend with a screening of Under the Same Sun. Academy Award-nominated Israeli producer Amir Harel and Palestinian director Sameh Zoabi joined forces for Same Sun. It’s the story of two businessmen — one Israeli and one Palestinian — who struggle to launch a solar energy company as a joint venture. Facing opposition from family, friends and associates for cooperating with each other in much the same way the filmmakers did, the businessmen (played by Yossi Marshek and Ali Suliman) refuse to let Middle Eastern politics prevent them from offering a much-needed form of alternative energy. Mahdi Fleifel’s A World Not Ours and Xenos, both about life in a refugee camp, and Hany Abu-Assad’s Oscar-nominated Omar are also set for Saturday screenings.
See Under the Sun at 3 p.m., A World Not Ours and Xenos at 5 p.m., and Omar at 7 p.m. Rice University, 6100 Main. For information, call 713‑348-4853 or visit hpff.org. $10.
Sat., May 24, 3, 5 & 7 p.m., 2014
