A Heavy Salad
Don't let the name fool you: Dance Salad is no light affair. The 11th annual installment of the festival, spread over three nights, features a stunning array of companies from China, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, New York, Florida and Germany. Also included are China's Guangdong Modern Dance Company, the country's first professional modern dance troupe, and the Dutch National Ballet. Texas Ballet Theater will throw down for the home state.
Producer Nancy Henderek and the Houston International Dance Coalition have outdone themselves: All in all, the event will consist of eight U.S. premieres and 73 dancers. The music will range from Nina Simone to Bach to polka to Vivaldi, and the movement from the über-traditional to the sharper side of the cutting edge. Enhance your cultural diet.
April 13-15, 7:30 p.m.
