Amanda Auchter and Lacy M. Johnson
People who know about such things tell us that by the year 2050, whites will in the minority in America. Author Lacy Johnson decided to look at rural white culture as something that might be lost to generations to come. The result was the memoir Trespasses, remembrances from three decades spent in the Great Plains told through essays and poetry along with a combination of formal and informal research. Johnson, who will be reading from her work today, will be joined by Amanda Auchter, the author of The Wishing Tomb, a collection of poems dedicated to the life of New Orleans. Through her gripping use of irony and obsessive attention to history, she shows the still-beating heart of the culture that has endured in the Big Easy since its founding.
