An Afternoon with Arturo Sandoval

One of the most important Cuban exports of the last century has got to be jazz trumpet master Arturo Sandoval. A protégé of Dizzy Gillespie (who was known for adding a Latin flavor to his own style of jazz), Sandoval defected to the United States in 1990. ''He’s one of the best. He’s got bull chops,'' Gillespie once said of Sandoval. In addition to Latin jazz, Sandoval’s shiny golden horn also speaks fluent rock, bebop, country, folk and classical music. On Sunday, the four-time Grammy Award winner joins the Baytown Symphony Orchestra for an afternoon concert.
