Ant Sandwich

Ant Sandwich came to Joel Orr in a dream. "I was talked into giving someone a sandwich that was covered in ants," Orr explains. "The person was like super, super thankful - nobody ever brought them a sandwich before. As I ran away, I could hear the person wailing when they discovered the ants." This inspired a play in which rod, hand and shadow puppets depict a race of underground humanoids in charge of creating a new world. "But they're failing at it," says Orr. How does that relate to the sandwich? "It was the image of the ant sandwich as a cruel, broken promise," he says. For the humanoids, that correlates to the idea of struggling endlessly to develop something they'll never be allowed to participate in, or even know if they got right (if they ever finish in the first place). 9 p.m. June 11, 12, 15 and 19; 6 p.m. June 13.
