LARPers, Filkers and fen are uniting for a weekend of fandom and networking at ApolloCon, Houston's only all-encompassing science fiction, fantasy and horror conference.
The three-day convention will feature a full schedule of LARP (live action role playing) and filk (computer and cat-themed music), as well as a judged masquerade and art show for sci-fi fen (the plural of fan in 'fanspeak').
Fen and casual supporters alike can sit in on panels on the topics of literature, media and general science fiction culture. Guests of honor include Nebula Award-nominated author Martha Wells and Ann VanderMeer, editor-in-chief for Weird Tales, the oldest fantasy magazine in the world. 2011 marks the eighth year for the fan-run ApolloCon, and with a growing fanbase, it shows no signs of stopping. 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. DoubleTree Hotel Houston Intercontinental Airport, 15747 John F. Kennedy Jr. Blvd. For information, call 281-848-4000 or visit www.apollocon.org.
