If you like talented performers, amusing animal encounters and hand puppets — and who doesn't? — they can now be found twice a day Thursday through Sunday at the Houston Zoo. Avenue Zoo features animal puppetry, lively songs and music, and lots of familiar Houston references, and it follows the adventures of Zoe, who encounters colorful birds, a friendly lion and a knowledgeable python and learns about their species and habitats and how she can get more involved with the zoo and wildlife conservation. This live stage presentation, running for 25 minutes, was originally created and produced by the Wildlife Conservation Society's Bronx Zoo but has been adapted for Houston. Brian Hill, staff member at the Houston Zoo, said: ''The result of a unique partnership between the zoo and Theatre Under The Stars, Avenue Zoo is the first presentation of its kind in the zoo's 91 years of operation in Hermann Park.'' This musical journey sounds like a treat for all ages.
Avenue Zoo continues through August 18, Thursday through Sunday, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (weather permitting). It is included with the regular zoo admission of $14 for adults, $7.50 seniors, $10 children 2-11, with children under 2 free. 6200 Hermann Park Drive.
