Best of the Last

It's not often you get a chance to check out a reality TV star. Okay, fine, it's like every other damn day — those people just won't go away. But this one's funny, and he proved it by taking home the crown on NBC's Last Comic Standing 2 back in 2004. John Heffron, known to Phyllis Diller as "the cute one," lands at the Houston Improv today, where, in accordance with ancient ritual, he'll tell jokes. It's a safe bet his material will include his battles with the We Gotta Go Girl. (You know the one — if she ain't getting play, nobody's getting play.) "Women at bars are like the marines: They don't leave anybody behind," he jokes. C'mon, John, life isn't that bad. Phyllis Diller will always take you home. 8:30 p.m. today; show continues at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, January 27 and 28; and 8 p.m. Sunday, January 29. 7620 Katy Freeway, suite 431. For tickets, call 713-333-8800 or visit www.improv.com. $20.
