Body of War

Tomas Young joined the Army after 9/11 to get revenge on the perpetrators of the attacks. He thought he would go to Afghanistan; he never wanted to fight in Iraq, which is where he was sent. It turned out that he was there for less than a week before getting shot.

A bullet to the spine paralyzed Young and robbed him of his control of basic bodily functions. Body of War, a highly acclaimed documentary by Phil Donahue and University of Texas professor Ellen Spiro, follows Young as he finds a new place in the world as an outspoken critic of operations in Iraq. The filmmakers interweave two narrative threads together, the wrenching story of 25-year-old Young and the often ludicrous debate in Congress that led up to the invasion. Witnessing the veteran wheel his new bride away from their wedding ceremony on his lap will simultaneously inspire respect for Young and anger toward the leaders who sent him after the wrong enemy. 8 p.m. today and 3 p.m. tomorrow.
