"Body, Surface, Signs: New Work from Potter Albert Goldreich and Painter Becky Soria"
Unlike the vast majority of visual artists, potter Albert Goldreich holds a world record. He's in Believe the Unbelievable for having continuously thrown on a potter's wheel for the longest period of time: 18 hours and three minutes. Viewers will see more recent creations in "Body, Surface, Signs: New Work from Potter Albert Goldreich and Painter Becky Soria." Goldreich strives to create pottery that is both decorative and functional, while throwing in nods to his South African homeland with the use of rich colors and tribal patterns. Some textures suggest snakeskin or wild flowers, others seem informed by the South African landscape. The other artist in the show, Soria, originally from Bolivia, paints abstract images of the human body. There's an opening reception with the artists 5 to 8 p.m. January 8. Regular viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through February 3. Archway Gallery, 2305 Dunlavy. For information, call 713-522-2409 or visit www.archwaygallery.com. Free.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 2. Continues through Feb. 3, 2010
