Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet

Getting mentioned in a major motion picture starring Matt Damon is a sign that things are going well. In The Adjustment Bureau, Damon’s love interest, played by Emily Blunt, is an alluring ballerina with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, an actual modern dance troupe based in Manhattan. The Society for the Performing Arts welcomes the fast-rising, 16-member company to Houston today. Its varied and ambitious repertoire focuses on diverse, hyper-modern choreography and, as the group’s Web site puts it, “the infinite possibilities of movement and multimedia.”

Artistic Director Benoit Swan-Pouffer crafts a number of works himself, but has also commissioned pieces by international dancers and choreog-raphers including Nicolo Fonte, Crystal Pite, Jacopo Godani and Stijn Celis. Occasionally, the dancers use furniture, wires and other props to en-hance their movement, but the focus is always on their athletic bodies, which seem able to adjust — appropriately — to any mood or method. 8 p.m. Wortham Center, 500 Texas. For information, call 713-227-4772 or visit www.spahouston.org. $24 to $54.
