The Ensemble Theatre is offering a jazzy take on a classic story with a fresh new musical version of Cinderella, coming to Houston from the African-American Shakespeare Company. Some of the new elements in this familiar tale: the jumping 1950s dance number and the girl-on-girl wrestling match featuring none other than those ugly stepsisters (they'll do anything to win their prince). Then there's that styling fairy godmother who's got tons of "diva-tude." The whole show clocks in at less than an hour and a half with an intermission. Pack up the kids and the grandparents and see Cinderella 7:30 Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. Through December 26. 3535 Main. For information, call 713-520-0055 or visit www.ensemblehouston.com. $20 to $45.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Nov. 26. Continues through Dec. 26, 2010
