"Collections: Annual HSPVA Juried Show"
"Collections: Annual HSPVA Juried Show" is so popular, the Jung Center already has next year's show on the calendar. This year's show is on view now. "The HSPVA students are not just terrifically gifted creators of art, they are passionate and unafraid to let the viewer into their worlds," says Jung Center Director of Communications Sean Fitzpatrick. Made up of some 55 works, the exhibit features art ranging from sculptures to collage, painting, textile and drawings. Works include Helen Little's piece Fields of Fruit, which shows rolling green hills dotted by trees that have oddly shaped cucumber slices for leaves, with a few red birds sitting in the branches. Little will begin the new school year as a sophomore at HSPVA this fall. New graduate Nick Swartztrauber contributed Under Pressure, a multimedia stick figure piece made from metal rods, photographs and neon (think an updated Tin Man). Norma Dolcater, dean of the Glassell Junior School, acted as juror for the show, while recent graduate Catarina Williams, who has already exhibited her work in local galleries and is headed off to college in the fall, was the student organizer. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
