"Coming of Age
"Coming of Age," Kristy Peet's new show at the gallery inside Hungry's Cafe & Bistro, deals with the blurry line between American childhood and adulthood. Bar mitzvahs and quinceaneras aside, not too many Americans go through a formal rite of passage after which they're considered adults. This got 28-year-old photographer Peet thinking; the Dallas-born Peet, who's taught at the University of Houston and the Houston Center for Photography, has taken conventional coming-of-age symbols and turned them into thought-provoking color photographs. In one, a close-up of a young man's face shows tiny bits of toilet paper used to stanch shaving mistakes. Both literal and abstract, the shots might not get you thinking about mortgages and picket fences - but they might spur you to get off your mother's sofa. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
