Dance Source Houston's taking over Barnevelder Theatre as its new base of operations. To break in the new digs, DSH's presenting
Dance Source Houston's Barn Raising, a program featuring several local performers, choreographers and dance companies. ''It just seems like an obvious choice to have Dance Source Houston at Barnevelder,'' says Andy Noble, founder of NobleMotion Dance. According to Noble, DSH has been crucial in the growth of Houston’s dance scene. ''There's a great dance community in Houston … Yes, there's some healthy competition between companies, but we also have a great community of dance artists that support each other. That's why the entire dance community is getting behind this particular event.''
The Barn Raising includes performances by Karen Stokes Dance, one of the Houston Press MasterMind Awards winners this year; Frame Dance Productions; and Reck Dance Projects. NobleMotion contributes A Small Place, an intimate solo performed by company founding member Brittany Thetford. ''We're generally known for doing big, physical, theatrical work with technology, and we wanted to do something a little smaller for this show.'' (A Small Place will be part of NobleMotion Dance's upcoming show at Barnevelder later this season.)
