David V. Herlihy: The Lost Cyclist
In 1892, Frank Lenz quit his accounting job and set off on the adventure of a lifetime. Working as a correspondent for Outing magazine, he was going to bicycle around the world, a total of 20,000 miles over three continents. That's an interesting enough story, but when Lenz went missing in Turkey, just before he completed his journey, it became a sensation. Author David V. Herlihy's nonfiction The Lost Cyclist chronicles the travels of William Sachtleben, another cyclist that Outing sent out to retrace Lenz's tracks, and the ensuing struggle to bring Lenz's accused murderers to justice amidst a collapsing Europe. 7 p.m. Blue Willow Book Shop, 14532 Memorial.
