A fresh batch of freaky move-masters has waltzed onto the Houston dance stage in the form of Compass Soul. The group’s new show, Deadly Seven, explores the classic seven deadly sins thematically. Director Marco A. Bernal Jr. began the group as an expansion of a rock band; the ideas eventually developed into a multimedia show event with a focus on new and original stories rather than adaptations or re-imaginings. Deadly Seven is a dark, strange tale with adult concepts. Two young lovers find themselves stalked by a mysterious, shadowy entity known as “The Faceless,” which is played by five different actors throughout the performance. “After a promotional walk-through at Memorial City Mall earlier this month, people approached to ask what the Faceless characters represent in the show,” Bernal said by e-mail. “I told them that the idea behind these characters was that they represent everyone and no one at the same time. Simply put, they are us.”
