Disorder in the Court
You're at a loss in love if you're a lass in love in the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston's double-billed performances of Trial by Jury and HMS Pinafore. In courtroom operetta Trial by Jury, a jilted bride seeks restitution from her former suitor. She pleads her case to an all-male jury and a judge whose womanizing ways have left him sympathetic to "the confused man." And in the rousing musical HMS Pinafore, set on the open sea, a captain's daughter finds love in the only place he forbids it: his crew. After he announces she must marry an aristocrat, she's torn between status quo and true love. In 19th-century England, it wasn't easy to be a woman or a deckhand.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: July 21. Continues through July 30
