Electric Purgatory: The Fate of the Black Rocker
Director Raymond Gayle will be in attendance during a screening of his documentary film Electric Purgatory: The Fate of the Black Rocker. In making the film, Gayle traveled across the country for a year speaking to black rockers such as Fishbone, Cody Chesnutt, Vernon Reid and Jimi Hazel. He also talked to pop culture and music journalists including Flip Barnes, Charlie Braxton and Greg Tate. Together they painted a bleak picture for African-American musicians in the rock world. While the film's subjects differed in their opinions about the causes of the situation, they agreed that nothing will change until there are more black rockers onstage and more black rock fans in the audience. 8:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer.
