Family Fun Films with Pop Stars

It's a scene that plays out over and over - formerly hip fathers coming home from a hard day at the office, pulling off their ties and being confronted by their confused children, brandishing decades-old photos of vaguely familiar musicians holding instruments. "Dad, you used to rock?" Thankfully, Dads Who Rock, four Austin-area musician dads (Beaver Nelson, Nathan Hamilton, Matt the Electrician and Michael Fracasso), never gave up rocking for the straight life. They're performing at Family Fun Films with Pop Stars, a special pre-Father's Day film fest and concert at Discovery Green. But don't expect any kiddie tunes here, this is pure Texas singer/songwriter folk and country music that both parents and kids can groove to. Immediately following the concert, there will be a screening of shorts from The Best of Children's Film Festival Seattle 2009. Included are Crank Balls by Devin Bell and What To Eat, Oscar? by Mig Jou. 7 p.m. 1500 McKinney. For information, call 713-868-2101 or visit www.aurorapictureshow.org. Free.
