Author and journalist Fatima Bhuttos family history is inextricably bound up with Pakistans political past. Her grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the countrys fourth president. Her father Murtaza Bhutto was an elected member of parliament and was assassinated in 1996. Her aunt Benazir Bhutto was campaigning for a third term as prime minister when she was assassinated by a suicide bomber in 2007.
Today Fatima Bhutto will discuss her latest book, the memoir Songs of Blood and Sword, which some critics feel is both a love letter to her father and a display of naked disapproval of her aunt. But familial dysfunction is to be expected, even from one of the worlds most important political dynasties. Learn Fatimas side today at 6:30 p.m. Westin Galleria Hotel, 5060 West Alabama. For information, call 713-522-7811 or visit www.wachouston.org. $25 to $35.
