"FotoFence"

Over the last year, the Literacy Through Photography program put hundreds of students together with dozens of teachers and artists. LTP gave the kids just one mandate: Show us what you see. The result is "FotoFence", an exhibit of 500 student posters and writings. Some kids worked on photo-blogging and street photography; others wrote poems and essays. They addressed issues such as teen pregnancy, poverty, climate change and animal rights. And most importantly, they experienced the power of art firsthand. There’s an opening reception at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, with readings by student writers. Regular viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through May 20. FotoFest, 1113 Vine Street. For information, call 713-223-5522 or visit www.fotofest.org. Free.

Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: May 11. Continues through May 20, 2009
