FotoFest: Pozos Childrens project
In 1979, the photographer Geoff Winningham visited Pozos, a tiny mining town near Mexico City. Nearly 30 years later, Winningham and his wife now spend at least half the year there, and the area has become something of a colony for American artists. So its no surprise that the photographer, known especially for his Rites of Fall series about Texas high school football, decided to pursue a photo project in his adopted hometown.
But this time he handed the camera off to local children: Working with volunteers from Rice University, where hes a professor, Winningham made three trips to Pozos in late 2007 and taught a band of local kids basic photography and darkroom skills before send-ing them into the streets to create the vivid, varied images on display in FotoFest: Pozos Childrens Project. 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays,
