“The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord,” states the Old Testament’s prophetic book of Joel. The pastor of a San Antonio mega-church and founder of the organization Christians United for Israel, John Hagee wrote Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change, about how recent (and upcoming) lunar events are tied to greater world events. A docudrama based on the book is set to be shown in Houston for just one night — days before one of the four total lunar eclipses discussed in his book. During these eclipses, the Earth casts its shadow on the moon, washing it with a red glow. A screenplay by Rick Eldridge and director Kieth Merrill brings the prophetic words of Hagee to the big screen, combining Scripture, science, live action and centuries of history. These four lunar events, Hagee claims, are tied inextricably with Jewish High Holy Days, and he is among a group of Evangelicals who believe that, to this day, the Jewish people are the chosen people of God. But what will these four blood moons mean for Israel? According to reviews of the book, not a lot of detail is offered by Hagee. We just know something is about to change. For those who are fascinated by events in the Middle East, talk of end times and biblical prophecy, this is sure to be an interesting conversation starter.
