If the logic behind the "Dag! That's Cold!" film show is correct, How to Drive on Snow and Ice could be the instructional video that saves your life despite -- or perhaps because of -- the August heat. It's unlikely that deadly snow drifts will develop on I-10, but "Dag! That's Cold!" curator and self-described A/V geek Skip Elsheimer thinks such films centered on "chilling" imagery might save Houstonians from heat exhaustion.

Elsheimer hand-picked How to Drive and five other 16-millimeter shorts from his 18,000-title collection based on their common theme of cold. Other chill topics from "Dag!" include the skills needed for Building an Igloo and the supposedly suicidal behavior of rodents in the 1958 Disney nature film White Wilderness-Lemmings. The icy finale, Cipher in the Snow, follows a young boy who falls to his death in the snow, leaving his math teacher to investigate. Chill out at 8:15 p.m.
Tue., Aug. 8, 8:15 p.m.
