''Galveston Artist Residency (GAR) Exhibition''
It’s the inaugural year for the Galveston Artist Residency, which grants three artists space in a reimagined industrial complex on the edge of downtown Galveston, allowing them the freedom to create. This year’s lucky trio was Kelly Sears, Nsenga Knight and Nick Barbee. The public can view the fruits of their efforts at a group show at the rather simply named “Galveston Artist Residency (GAR) Exhibition.” Sears, a brilliant collage filmmaker and animator, will showcase her short films, The Rancher and Once it Started it Could Not End Otherwise, which was selected for Sundance. Crafted from high-school yearbook photos, it’s a horrifying tale of students being stalked by a sinister force. Knight will be showing photographic work from an ongoing project, while Barbee will contribute small sculptures along with his paintings and drawings of them. 11 am to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through August 19. Galveston Arts Center, 2501 Market.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: July 14. Continues through Aug. 19, 2012
