Ghostly Musical Resurrected
"Back by popular demand" is a term so clichéd it's hard to use seriously. But that's the only way to describe the return of Speeding Motorcycle. Infernal Bridegroom Productions' rock opera, based on the work of cult singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston, opened to glowing reviews and a packed house in May. The New York Times review even noted that some theatergoers were being turned away. Thus IBP has revived the show for another three weeks. Johnston's songs are strange, childlike and surreal, and Speeding Motorcycle seeks to be as strange, childlike and surreal. The lobotomized Joe Boxer attempts to manage his unrequited love with input from Casper the Friendly Ghost, Captain America, Satan and Boxer's own alter egos. Jump on a second chance to see the summer theater season's weirdo extravaganza at 8 p.m.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 10. Continues through Sept. 2
