Gillian Flynn: Gone Girl
From the opening lines of her latest psychological thriller, Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn paints the picture of an unfortunate marriage. The mismatched couple includes underachiever Nick and dissatisfied Amy. When the story starts, it’s their anniversary. As she does every year, Amy will leave a trail of clues for him, each one leading him closer to his perfect gift. As he does every year, Nick will miss each of the clues, proving to Amy, once again, that he doesn’t love her enough and that he doesn’t listen to her at all. But all of that’s put on hold when a neighbor calls Nick at work: “I just thought you should know … your door is wide open.” Nick rushes home and finds his wife gone. He doesn’t have time to absorb the fact that the woman who never misses an opportunity to point out his flaws, who spends most of her time being unforgiving, is gone, before he becomes the number one suspect in her disappearance. Gillian Flynn discusses and signs copies of Gone Girl at 6:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com.
