Grand Taiko Concert
The big boom-boom bombs emanating from Miller Outdoor Theatre today are the sonically impressive sounds of the annual Grand Taiko Concert. The musical art of taiko, the Japanese word for drum, carries deep significance in Japanese culture, from calling a mythical sun goddess out from her cave to illuminate the world, to helping samurai warriors frighten their enemies, to use in religious services. This will mark the 15th year that local performing group Kaminari Taiko will perform on more than 50 drums and percussion instruments. (It could be the only show where muscle ointment and ear plugs are part of the band's backstage rider.) 7:30 p.m. 6000 Hermann Park Drive.
