Harlan Coben: Six Years

Nothing is what it seems to be in Harlan Coben’s latest novel, Six Years. The story starts with Coben's protagonist, Jake Fisher, in the back of a church watching the love of his life, Natalie, marry someone else. He's an emotional mess after the ceremony, but he manages to keep it together long enough to promise Natalie he won't bother her or her new husband, Todd. He keeps that promise, hard as it is for him, for six years. When Natalie's husband dies, Jake can't help going to the funeral. Hoping to catch a glimpse of Natalie, Jake is disappointed. She isn't there. Then he's confused. Todd's widow isn't Natalie but some other woman who was married to him for almost 20 years.

That's just the beginning of Jake's trip down the rabbit hole. As he investigates, he finds that not only is Natalie not Todd’s widow, she might not even be a real person. He turns to friends he and Natalie knew for help, but he can't find them or they don't remember him. Was Natalie real? Did Jake dream her up, or is it everyone else who's hallucinating? Why would everyone be pretending not to know her? Not to remember Jake? Coben takes us on a wild ride as we find out.
