Haute Wheels of Houston
First things first: There is absolutely no place for soggy tortillas, shriveled hot dogs and unidentifiable meats at Haute Wheels Houston, a sprawling, two-day, food truck festival on the grounds of Houston Community College Southwest. The gourmet mobile food movement has finally become entrenched in H-town, it seems; most of the participating trucks are well-known by serious pavement-pounders already.
Fusion Taco and No Borders serve up high-end Mexican street food; Off the Hook dishes out fried seafood, Cajun-style. Vegans are covered at Green Seed, Good Dog offers Texas-made franks, and the sweetly inclined can opt for two cupcake trucks and several better-than-traditional ice cream trucks. Top it off with wine, beer and live music, and the next night at an actual restaurant might seem a little ...well, bland. Noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. 5601 West Loop South Freeway. For information, call 713-557-5732 or visit www.hautewheelshouston.com. $16.
