Hawks and Sparrows
Pier Paolo Pasolini fans will finally get a chance to see two of the Italian director's greatest works unmarred by the signs of age and decay. Fully restored versions made from 35mm film prints from the archive of the legendary Cinecittà studio in Rome of both Il Vangelo Secondo Matteo (The Gospel According to Matthew) and Uccellacci e Uccellini (Hawks and Sparrows)screen as part of a Pasolini retrospective. Until now, fans have had to make do with inferior, badly dubbed DVD versions of the two films (among the many offenses: One of the wise men in Gospel According to Matthew sounds like Donald Duck on laughing gas). The films are being presented in Italian with English subtitles (so long, Donald!).
Gospel screens at 7 p.m. on Saturday; Hawks screens at 8 p.m. Saturday. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit mfah.org. $9.
