HEB Thanksgiving Day Parade

What we now know as the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade started back in 1949 when Santa drove his sleigh from Houston’s Union Station to a downtown department store. It’s a bit larger these days — quite a bit. So start your Turkey Day by checking out the parade’s hundreds of marching band and drill team performers, as well as clowns, giant floating animals and, of course, a certain guest from the faraway North Pole. The 2008 theme is “Hooray for Hollywood,” so expect cameos by celebrities and sports stars. One guest, preteens will be pleased to know, is Mitchel Musso, the 17-year-old star of Hannah Montana. Corky Ballas, from Dancing with the Stars, is this year’s Grand Marshal. The parade starts at Hamilton and Texas, near Minute Maid Park, and continues to Rusk and Crawford, so you can’t really miss it. 9 a.m. For information, call 713-654-8808 or visit Free.
