Heroes Alter Egos
Heroes Alter Egos shows off the artistic forces of the United Underground Painters Association (a.k.a. UUPA Crust Collective) with mixed-media work by Michael K. Taylor, Lance Flowers, Robert Hodge, and Lovie Olivia. Theyre doing pieces centered around different heroes and alter egos, says Crystal Benavides, space125gallerygallery manager. Theyre not confined to traditional definitions of that, but heroes that inspired them in their lives. Some of them are family members or community icons, and some are characters from comic books.
The group has created individual and collaborative pieces. Taylor does photo-collage. They start with photos and then are built into collage, but they have, because of their texture, a painting quality to them. Lance Flowers uses found objects with drawing and painting. Robert does silk screening, painting, with found objects involved. And Lovie does primarily painting, but shell also have found objects and photos. It should be a nice mix of urban and edgy, with some classical painting styles.
