Holi 2010: The 3rd Annual Festival of Colours

Have you always wanted to try throwing powder at strangers, but are afraid of the social and legal repercussions? Then mark Holi 2010: The 3rd Annual Festival of Colours on your calendar. Masala Radio's Indian festival, which last year drew nearly 10,000 people to Sugar Land's Oyster Creek Park, features incredible food and a slew of music, fashion and Bollywood dance shows, but the main attraction is the vibrantly colored powder people pitch at each other with impunity. (Bonus: It's nontoxic!) "The color zone is right in front of the entertainment stage, so people are always going back and forth," Masala Radio's Sandhya Thakkar says. "Everyone comes by and sees what's going on, and then they go back to color-throwing. It's an unrestrained, fun kind of thing." For you American Idol types, there will be a singing competition featuring six local finalists that will be broadcast on Indian satellite channel Star Plus. Ring in spring colorfully from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oyster Creek Park, 4033 Highway 6 South. For information, visit www.masalaradio.net. Free.
Sun., Feb. 28, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., 2010
