Houston 175 Historic Cemetery Crawl
Founders Memorial Park Cemetery, started in 1837, is just one stop on the Houston 175 Historic Cemetery Crawl. The afternoon features living history tours of four cemeteries altogether, representing a variety of groups that settled in Houston during the city's early days. See the graves of some of our earliest black residents, both slaves and freemen, at Olivewood Cemetery (1875) and College Park Cemetery (1844), and early Jewish families at Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery (1896), the first Jewish burial ground in Texas.
You might not hear any ghost stories during today's crawl, but you will hear about famous and infamous Houstonians of the past. Noon to 4 p.m. Various locations including Founders Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 West Dallas. For information, visit www.houston175.org. Free.
