Houston Press: Burger Bracket
Since we all know the NCAA bracket race has been seriously compromised by Florida Gulf Coast University, it's time to pay attention to a competition of another sort, the Houston Press Burger Bracket. Conceived in 2011, the contest pits some of Houston's best burgers against each other in culinary combat. There are four categories of the competition: Pub-Style, Wild Game, Classic Roadside and Readers' Choice. The first 150 people to join us at The Refinery on Saturday will get free samples from all four finalists and then vote to determine this year's Burger Bracket Champion. To help you wash down those burgers, The Refinery will have drink specials all day as well as a hearty lineup of craft beer. Houston Press food critic Katharine Shilcutt will be on hand along with other Eating…Our Words contributing writers. Come out early and stick around for the judging and winners announcement later that afternoon. Doors open at 11 a.m.; sampling starts at 12:30 p.m. 702 West Dallas.
