Houston Texans Pancakes & Pigskins Rookie Breakfast

It’s a day that Houston Texans superfans look forward to every year — the chance to stuff their gullets and mingle with freshman footballers at the Pancakes & Pigskins Rookie Breakfast. The most attention this morning is likely to go to first-round draft pick and offensive tackle Duane Brown, who will hopefully give quarterback Matt Schaub the chance to taste a little victory this season. (That’s unlike predecessor David Carr, who only tasted turf while getting sacked more than discount groceries on triple coupon night.) Other rookies with high hopes to make an impact include Steve Slaton, Cliff Washburn, Frank Okam and Antwaun Molden, and you can share a table with one of them during breakfast. Also in attendance will be General Manager Rick Smith, Texans cheerleaders and mascot TORO — though we don’t know how the hell he’ll flip a pancake with those hooves. 7:30 to 9 a.m. Verizon Club at Reliant Stadium, One Reliant Park. For information, call 832-667-2142 or visit www.houstontexans.com/community. $65.
Tue., Sept. 9, 7 a.m., 2008
