Houston Zoo Free Admission Day
The holidays bring out a lot of animals. No, not your annoying relatives; we mean lions, tigers and bears (oh my!), along with African wild dogs, Komodo dragons and clown fish that would put a hurtin on Nemo. You can see them all today, without paying a dime, at the Houston Zoos Free Admission Day. With 4,500 animals (give or take a dead bird or two) spread over 55 acres of natural habitat, the zoo is a local treasure that tends to get overlooked by those not currently in elementary school and their parents. Take a walk on the real wild side; just keep those hands outside the cages. You dont want to start off 2009 with a missing finger or two. (Zoo officials warn parking is going to be scarce, so you may want to take the train.) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 6200 Golf Course Drive. For information, call 713-533-6500 or visit www.houstonzoo.org. Free.
Thu., Jan. 1, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., 2009
