Dance can easily be weighed down by its past, but youth, novelty and spontaneity are front and center at Impulse! the annual faculty concert of the University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance. The student dancers of the UH Ensemble will perform a number of new works, including a piece by Karen Stokes, who heads the department when shes not choreographing for Travesty Dance Group, her contemporary troupe. Other faculty presenting new works are Becky Valls, whose Beater Wife is set in the conservative 1950s; Teresa Chapman, whose Stolen Moments explores her past; and Jhon Stronks and Jackie Nalett. The Houston Met Too, a local company of younger dancers, will share the stage with the UH students, offering not only the premiere of new work but a look at Houstons dance future. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Wortham Theatre, University of Houston, 4800 Calhoun Road. For information, call 713-743-2929 or visit www.theatredance.uh.edu. $15 to $20.
