“International Discoveries III”
Photographer Louis Palu’s depiction of U.S. Marine Corporal Philip Pepper is stark. The 22-year-old is seen in a close-up, helmet on, his face dirty from the dusty roads his convoy has been on. The black-and-white portrait, U.S. Marine Cpl. Philip Pepper, Age 22, Garmsir, Helmand, Afghanistan (seen below), shows Pepper’s eyes are almost half-closed, dead-looking.
The image is just one of the many seen in “International Discoveries III.” A collection of work “discovered” by FotoFest curators during their travels in the last two years, the exhibit also features images by Jose Diniz of Brazil, Kyu-Ho-Kim of Korea and Liliana Molero of Uruguay. There’s an opening reception with some of the artists at 6 p.m. October 27. Regular viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through December 22. Vine Street Studios, 1113 Vine Street. For information, call 713-223-5522 or visit www.fotofest.org. Free.
