Jekyll & Hyde
''They’ve cut some of the excess music and characters, toughened up the fiancée of Dr. Jekyll [and Mr. Hyde], done a lot of reorchestrating of the songs so they sound completely new,'' according to Teal Wicks, the actress who'll be playing Emma Carew, that fiancée, when the latest version of Jekyll & Hyde returns to Houston, brought back by Theatre Under the Stars. ''They’ve tried to give Emma a little more guts and wit,'' Wicks says, as her character decides to stand by her man despite mounting evidence that something has gone very awry with the good doctor. ''My character, Emma, she sort of grew up in society in London but was always a passionate lady who likes to follow her passions rather than her duty. She falls in love with Dr. Jekyll (played by Constantine Maroulis), and they get engaged. She loves his commitment and passion for his work.'' Wicks, who hit the big time when she played Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway in 2011, says she’s enjoying the show — ''the hardest thing is putting on the corsets and buckles.'' 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Through October 21.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 9. Continues through Oct. 21, 2012
