Justin Cronin: The Passage
Most successful authors have to choose between literary and commercial success. Houstonian Justin Cronin has both. (He says the difference between the two is that literary works are appreciated and commercial works are sold.) A professor at Rice University, Cronin had quietly published two well-received literary novels before writing The Passage, the first of a three-part series set in an apocalyptic world. A secret government experiment has gone horribly wrong, producing a creature that threatens to exterminate the human race. The worlds only hope is a six-year-old orphaned girl who may hold the key to salvation. Cronin is hard at work on his next book, but hes also making the rounds signing just released paperback copies of The Passage. He signs the book at 6:30 p.m. today.
