Some of the world's hottest electronic DJs -- Amon Tobin, Junkie XL and Paul Oakenfold -- have recently scored video games. But nothing they've done is as memorable or as simple as the music from the Nintendo Entertainment System. Today, you can relive those days of boxy eight-bit graphics and synthetic instrumental J-pop sounds at Brinstar Disco at The Back Room. DJ Cuba Gooding Jr., Kunst Fascion, Kim, DJ Awesome Party and Pumpin' System will share dance-based interpretations of classic NES songs in their sets.

"Since I was 13, I've wanted to make music for games and have a bunch of synthy bands play a show based around Nintendo music," says Brandon Duhon -- a.k.a. DJ Cuba Gooding Jr. -- who plans to interpret the song from an adventure game called Rygar. Uh, come again? "It was the very first Nintendo game I got in fifth grade." Ah. Of course, there will also be better-known songs from games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Rest those thumbs, weary gamer, and start a dance revolution at 9 p.m.
Fri., June 16, 9 p.m.
