Kriegie Wartime Log

Gingerhead Productions brings us a story about survival in the worst of wartime circumstances with the play Kriegie Wartime Log. Based on the WWII journal of 2nd Lt. Warren Arieux, an American bombardier, Kriegie takes us to Barth, Germany, in 1944. That’s where Arieux, Gingerhead’s founder and Brandy Holmes’s grandfather, was interned at the Stalag Luft POW Camp. The YMCA gave each prisoner a journal when he arrived at the camp, and the men filled these journals with ideas, poems, recipes and drawings. After Arieux’s release, he shared his writing — most of it was very dramatic, some of it humorous — with his family. Holmes transformed those writings, and other research about the camp, into what she calls “a story of brotherhood, loss, love, greed, hope and sacrifice.” It all comes together in a performance piece shaped by four actors and directed by Holmes. 8 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, 2 p.m. Sundays. Through November 21. Divergence Music & Art, 1824 Spring Street. For information, call 832-338-9003 or visit www.brandy-holmes.com. $7.50 to $15.
