Weve heard
Kristine Mills master jazz; weve heard her conquer the bossa nova. Now, on her latest album,
As Yet Untitled, well hear her do something completely different. The CDs not due for release until May, but Mills is giving her audiences a sneak peek with an intimate concert. Musically, this is a big leap for me, she says. Not only because its taken me out of my comfort zone but because each of these songs is very personal. Mills, who has won
Houston Press Music Awards in the Best Female Vocalist and Best Songwriter categories, wrote all the music on
Untitled and, with the exception of two tunes, all the lyrics as well.
This album is where Ive always wanted to go, she says. Everything that Ive worked for is in here. Mills says her goal for Untitled was more of an adult contemporary sound than on her previous recordings. The shift in focus necessitated a different approach in terms of her songwriting. Its the first time where I was sitting down and thinking about what was the right way to craft a song from an intellectual place, and not just have it be an outpouring of emotions. 7:30 p.m. Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel.
