Lyric soprano Gillian Keith’s voice has often been called angelic, so her role as an angel in Ars Lyrica’s La Resurrezione seems appropriate. She’ll be making her Houston debut in Handel’s musical interpretation of the Resurrection story not as a meek, timid being with wings but rather as the fiery Angel. The rest of the characters include an irritated Lucifer (his usual state of being, we think) and heartbroken Christian followers Mary Magdalene, Cleophas and Saint John.
It was a young Handel who wrote La Resurrezione, and the 1708 oratorio captures the best of the composer: It’s energetic and high-spirited, and built around glorious, moving melodies. 7:30 p.m. Hobby Center, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-315-2525 or visit www.arslyricahouston.org. $21.25 to $41.25.
