Large Animal Games
Hunting for love is the focus of Large Animal Games by playwright Steve Yockey. The dark comedy is set in a lingerie shop, where a wise clerk helps customers find what they need, not only in the shop but in life as well. "One character is a woman who wants nothing to do with love," Jennifer Decker, artistic director for Mildred's Umbrella Theater Company, tells us. "Instead, she wants to go on safari and kill a big animal. She's actually in love with her gun, which to me is a great metaphor," Decker laughs.
The one-act is having its regional premiere with this production. Decker says the show is a perfect fit for Mildred's Umbrella. "It's a playwright that no one in Houston has done. We do things that are on the edgy side, and regional premieres are our favorites, so this fits the bill exactly." 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and July 2 and 9. Through July 14. (There is no show June 30.) Studio 101 at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street. For information, call 832-463-0409 or visit www.mildredsumbrella.com. Pay-as-you-like to $18.
