Little Known Facts
Local artist Michael Guidry wanted to give art fans a behind-the-scenes view of a few artists. Most people never get to see that, says Guidry. They never get to go to the artists studios or their houses they never get to see the environment that they live in, work in. In order to expose this world, Guidry came up with the idea of Little Known Facts, an exhibit where artists re-create a portion of their studios or living spaces. What he wound up with was collections of music, robots, bedroom items, sexy novels and naughty Japanese prints. Its not a sex show, Guidry says and laughs.
Gabriela Trzebinski has covered her studio walls with newspaper clippings, including many dealing with happenings in her hometown of Nairobi, Kenya. Laura Lark re-creates her childhood bedroom, sharing one of her first artistic breeding grounds. David Aylsworth, who titles most of his paintings after songs and lyrics, displays a collection of albums, as well as a few of his vintage homoerotic novels. Robert Ruello shows his collection of erotic Japanese prints and a listening station featuring mashups that combine two songs into one. And sculptor Andrew Groocock shows off some of his most prized androids.
Each show-and-tell space is accompanied by a piece of the artists work and, at todays opening reception and talk, the artists themselves. 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main.
