Little Shop of Horrors
The musical Little Shop of Horrors gets such frequent runs in Houston, it's almost as though Audrey, the carnivorous plant that grows ever larger with each act, never leaves town — she just moves from stage to stage. Music Box Theater gives us the latest incarnation of the popular show that chronicles the adventures of nerdy Seymour Krelborn, who finds an exotic plant that just happens to thrive on human blood.
Artistic Director Michael J. Ross describes the plant as ''a man-eating, soul-singing and foul-mouthed plant hell-bent on world domination.'' Ross and Kristina Sullivan lead the cast as Seymour and Audrey. The score includes several hit songs: ''Skid Row (Downtown),'' ''Somewhere That's Green'' and ''Suddenly, Seymour.'' Despite the dire fate that befalls victims of the plant, this is a warm, emotionally appealing and hilarious comedy.
